My red tail payara has some massive fin damage. I believe it to be stress and the work of two cichlids. In the coarse of three weeks I had to move my payara several times to new tanks and holding bins while my tanks were being taken out to switch the carpet. Anyways, he had to bunk with a 4.5" blood parrot and a 4.5" male jack Dempsey. It was fine until recently when I moved him back into the original setup when his fins started falling off. All the water parameters are good and in check with 20 percent water changes every three days. Which has been routine for some time now. Anyways the cichlids have been removed. What should I do guys? Will I have to do that fin amputation thing?

Looks like they were bitten off to me. If they were, keep his water clean, add some salt and feed him a lot. His fins should grow back fine in about a month.

When I got my scomb he was fresh in from South America and had ich and a major case of bacterial fin rot. He was a lot worse off than your guy and was sick to boot, but he was fine in a month.

Ok thanks. Mine is acting normal but just missing fins and no visible signs of sickness.

thats nothing too serious to worry about just some bitten off fins, just salt him and keep up with water changes :)
