I have had 2 IT for 4 years now (10 and 8 inch). Very stable, then 12 months ago moved them to my new 100G, and they lost stability. I have waited 1 year and they are still black.

I decided to add 8 new tigers, gradually over the space of the last 8 weeks. (see last post). Did a few things also 3 weeks ago, moved 95% of bogwood out, changed black to blue background, 2 water changes a week instead of 1.
Left some giant Vallis in tank.

Results: about 2.5 weeks ago, the 8 inch started to show signs of stabiltiy again. say about 20% per day. Slowly each day he's staying stable for longer, to about 50 to 60% of time:D He's still not quite right but much better than before... he's been black for 1 year until recently.
The increased tiger activity, together with all the more swimming space to display, has really helped.

For those getting frustarted with tigers going in and out of stability, I recommend adding more, if you got the space an cash. Also experiment with bare or non-bare tank, BUT what ever you try, give each change say 3 to 4 weeks to take effect, as certainly my IT's take some time to adapt to different environments. any way, some pics below, and I'll post some in 3 to 4 weeks time to see for any further improvement.

The last pic, you'll notice my 10" tig. Used to be black and gold, but went black for a year. Now since adding more IT, he goes all white, with barely any black markings left. Like a leopard losing spots. I think this is him displaying. Very puzzled:confused: Atleast 1 of the 2 big ones is definately improving. anyone else got one like this?

my dats warent stable for about 3weeks,until i'f gone to vacation for 1week,when i came back they were all stable.

Thats good new flemming. Are they still stable since being back from vacation? How many do you have?

about the all white dat.. check out the thread show your monster indo dats.. mine does the same thing..

saw your pics of white'ish dat... Good size and looking very healthy:)

you mentioned, it changeg colour since you changed the diet. What was his diet regime before and after the colour changes?

he says thanks..

he was on mostly thawed shrimp, then I changed to fish filets stuffed with salmon pellets..

My IT was stable when I first got him, and put him in a 125g with all kinds of different cichlids (SA, CA, African). He was bright yellow, with dark black bars when the lights were off.
About 1.5 months ago I added him to my new 150g set up, and he has not stabled out yet. He gets bright yellow sometimes, but his bars are not dark like they use to be. They're spotted bars like 1 of the IT's in the pic above.
Does anyone have any suggestions to get his bars to go back to dark black? I had a black background on the tank, which I removed last night. Should I go with a decorative background? Thats what I have on the 125g that he was in b4.

All other tigers are looking great!! Very Stable!!

Tigers are challenging, but that half the addiction:) I have known of others who have had 1 or 2 tigers in large cichlid tank set up like yours, and the same, always stable and alert tigers. Upon moving to a laerger tank with calmer tank mates... stability fades in and out, not always looking as good as before.

Regarding your background, I would try both themes, but stick with it for a few weeks to give tiger time to adjust. Since I changed my background to blue and removed wood, tigers have definately improved stability and markings, however, cant really say, wether its background, or because i added 8 new IT's in the last 8 weeks???

I would really suggest to add some more tigers, as most would agree, they do better in numbers. Just keep tryiing differnt things, but give each change some time to take effect (4 to 5 weeks at least). otherwise it will stress them out more.
Also I find, if i feed every other day, they almost beg for food, and at the same time display more as a group:D this often works to add stability.

Hope it helps.

good for you! the more the merrier!
