Well im getting a little depressed here... While i have nursed my female oscar back to health which is great with the rarity of her particular variety, my red tiger mota male has died. We had a massive drop in temperature and i forgot to crank my heater back up to keep the fish room toasty because i was using the ambient room temp to heat a couple tanks. My male came down with cloudy eyes and a fungal type of thing growing on him. I was sure i could save him but my efforts were futile. I think i may have actually killed him doing a water change. I think the introduction of warmer water may have shocked him and finished him off. I dont know what to do. I feel my abilities have gone from an expert fish keeper to a novice.

On a better note my pair of bahia red tail oscars will be introduced to their new pond this week along with a pair of azul peacock bass. Its pretty exciting and about the only thing keeping me motivated at this point. Im actually thinking of setting up another pond and getting stingrays but im not sure. May not get anything new and just wait for my oscars to breed. Take it one project at a time.

Cloudy eyes happens most of the time because of Ammonia in the water or drastic temperature.
I think you should test the ammonia level in your water.
Make a big water change and make sure that the new water temperature is equal to the temperature in the water that exist in the tank.

sorry to hear about your losses man. but according to joe dirt you just gotta keep on keeping on

What kind of a female oscar is it?

the oscars are Astronotus sp. Bahia Red Tails an F1 pair i got from Jeff Rapps. He imported them from Germany and said he hasnt seen any in the trade since.

The male mota was in a 55 gallon tank with two filters, its not really possible it was an ammonia issue. Ive never had that problem before.
