hello folks,

i am not sure if Mormyrus fits here?

but i will like to know if Mormyrus tapirus can mixed with malawi cichlids?
what's the PH of these guys?
are they aggressive and predatory?
are they easy to keep?

if you were to select between Gnathonemus petersii and Mormyrus tapirus which one is a better choice for a malawi tank?
67 gallons

thanks

a 67 sounds a little cramped for the morymus, they get over a foot long, and i definately wound not mix a peters elephant nose with malawi's they like more water more similar to the amazon then the rift lakes and are very docile. they have a temperment similar to discus except with other elephant noses and would likely be killed by african cichlids.

Hello sir

thanks for advice.
so morymus like acidic waters? i read they also live in lake malawi, high ph?
are they aggressive and will they eat the african cichlids?

any common smaller morymus species in the market?
i know the common ones like Mormyrus longirostris and Mormyrus kannume grow huge like 70cm to 100cm :WHOA:
too big for my tank....
but i still like the smaller ones as odd balls in my malawi tank...
they looked like dolphins!

sorry for the late reply

morymoids are a large diverse group of fish adapted to many habitats. peters elephant nose lives in slow muddy rivers and swamps that form from rivers, hence the lower PH and other differences, while the cornish trumpet morymoid lives in malawi. Though they are rare you could try dwarf stonebashers should you find them. they grow 3-4 inches and tolerate hard water and aggression very well for a small morymoid. you just have to only keep one or provide a very large number of refuges as they will fight with one another and any other electric type fish like knifefish
