New here....

I'm a "amateur" fish keeper.

Just scored a 77/80gal at a garage sale, and am looking to stock it. I'm a big fan of oddballs and anything eel-like or serpentine.

so if its all right with the lot of you, I'm just going to look around and try not to annoy anyone by asking too many questions.

Welcome to the site buddy,80 gal would be ok for some upper jaw polypterus, such as senegal, delhezi, palmas etc, check out some pics in the polypterus media lounge or look at my update thread in polypterus for an idea, but mine will be too big for an 80 but you will see what they look like if you don't know already.

Bichars aren't quite "odd" enough for me....

I'm leaning more towards smaller spiny eels, dragon gobies, and some of the loach species.

I'm also into the species that "common" people have never seen before: Stone/frog fish, farlowella, whiptail loricara, Wasp fish, butterfly fish, smaller gar and "barracuda."

Basically what I'm into is anything sinister-looking that when one looks at it; it makes them afraid to go into the water. Big spiny or spiked fins, maw-like mouths, and armour plating.

Welcome to MFK from a fellow "noob"! :headbang2
Question are not a bad thing, the more you know the better off you'll be in the end.

As any G.I Joe would say...
"Knowing is half the battle!"

I would definitly look at some of the bichirs here on MFK!!! Some of them are pretty sinister looking! I have both spiny eels and bichirs and I tend to like the bichirs better because they do not hide as much. My 8in senegal "Dino" is always cruising around the tank looking for something to eat. Very "oddball" interesting fish to watch. Good luck with your stocking and be careful with the butterfly fish. I assume you are talking about the african butterly...you will need a good lid on your tank and make sure there is little to no current on the surface otherwise they will just end up hiding in the corner of the tank!
