I hear MFs can be aggressive, might not be good to house with dwarf sunfish.

i've seen LFSs sell them dirt cheap. very tough little fish and semi-aggressive, too. they are also native to southern NA.

Gambusia are a real problem in southern streams. THey are VERY aggressive and very adaptable to conditions. I gave taken these fish from hypersaline salt flats on one extreme and cool mountain streams on the other. The biggest problem with these fish is that they outcompete many of the native inhabitants of a waterway. Killifish tend to be the most effected since they share the same microhabitat. In an aquarium, they will harass all other fish and outcompete them for food.

Just out of curiosity, what type of darter do you plan to keep with pygmy sunfish? This seems like a very odd choice of tank mates.
