Mosquito Larvae in my tank!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i've had the same problem in my planted tank as well. i don't understand how they breed there, i always thought they needed completely stagnant water for that. your gars are probably too big to even notice the larvae. i got me two dwarf gouramis/colisa lalia, to solve the problem, haha. yea but i'd like to know if anyone else has any other way to stop this from happening.

what about a couple dozen mosquito fish? if im not mistaken, im just going from the name, i believe they eat mosquito larvae... then when they're done they switch to feeders for gar

Can you net the mosquito larvae and feed them to smaller fish? That would solve that problem quickly. To solve the problem all together, you should try to get more water surface agitation in your tank. The adult mosquitoes need still water to lay their eggs. The larvae also need still water to breath properly. You can also keep an eye out for the egg cases that they lay. They look like little brown floating rafts which can be taken out and thrown away.

^AGREE^More surface agitation. I have heard Melaluca oil works, but I cant remember if I heard it here or from a fish guy I know. Anyway, melafix wont work, unless you get the 5% usually for pond applications.
