Been reading up on them and would like some input from other members. I have no experience with live plants. Are there any negative aspects from what I read yhey are pretty hardy and may keep unwanted algea at bay. Are they ablento attach to a rock and grown on them ?

Sent from my SPH-L710 using MonsterAquariaNetwork App

They grow VERY slow. Im talking maybe a mm or 2 a year. They can be broken and attached to things but it is tricky and takes a loooooong time for them to attach. They are very very hardy and can basically grow forever. Ive seen vids of them the size of basketballs. They do naturally filter water and collect a ton of junk but I used to just take em out and squeeze them in clean water like a sponge and the next day or 2 they are healthier.

Last really awesome thing is they can rise and sink on their own.

I have a few, and they are cool, but yeah, slowest growing organism in the known universe.

If you want to keep them in a ball shape, you don't attach them to anything. It is best if they can move (roll) in the tank so all surfaces get some light.

I agree, they are really slow-growing. I have one in of my shrimp tanks and it still looks the same when I first bought it.

do they filter nitrates at all? I want to get a few, and break some up and attach them to driftwood, but I dont want to put them in if they aren't gonna pull nitrates down haha

just an FYI in case you did not already know, moss balls are not actually moss they are algae. i have had a few in my tanks over the
years, there are much better plants for filtering nitrates but on the other hand i find them best for competing with nuisance algae

i actually wasnt aware they were algae haha thank you! Ya I use pothos for all my tanks, but I just wasnt sure if they would be helpful or not. I like the look of them, plus I cant find any time of aquarium moss anywhere to use in my tanks.

short point, yes they will be beneficial
