I see all the time how to make a moss wall, but will this work on the gravel? I would love to have a carpet of java moss, but right now mine is just i a ball in my tank. I do not know how to keep it down so it grows along the subtrate. I tried tying it to my fake log, but it just never adhered to it. it all ended up in my filters. I need ideas on what to with with my java moss. thanks

I also have problems with my moss.

Well, I was waiting to reply figuring some people would have better suggestions than the one I am going to offer but here's the best I've got hehe:

I take a whole bunch of it and wind a knot in the centre with lots of strands coming out of it. I put the clumped up bit under the gravel and the rest grows up like grass. It sort of has a fish jungle look to it.. Not a carpet by any means, but I prefer it to floating balls of moss. Java moss clings to driftwood and rocks really well though, just put it on whatever you want it to stick to take it out of the water for 20 - 30 min, put it back in and let it stay for a while, and the java moss spreads along it.

I tried doing my java moss on the fake log I had, it never stuck to it, and i was all over the tank. made a mess, was in my intakes and all over my plants. so many here have great tanks with java moss, why does mine want to just go all over?

I have moss attached to a fake log in my planted tank. I had problems like yours before with the filter.

What I do now is cover the area I want with moss, and tie it on with A LOT of fishing line. It will lay down flat when you put it in the tank, but if you have decent lighting it will grow out fairly quickly.

Do you have to take it out the water for a half hour for it to stick mine hasnt began to stick onto drift wood yet

I dont think that's the conventional method lol but it has worked (unintentionally) for me in the past and as a result I've used the method again.
