I couldn't find a topic that deals with live plants, if there is one, MODS please move:confused:

Anyway, I have all sand in my tank and want to do something new. I have oscars (2) a devil and 3 small convicts. I wanna try live plants but as we all know these fish re-arrange everything, so tall plants are out of the question. BUT I love the way moss looks. Is it possible to actually plant moss in my tank? I'm not looking to do the whole bottom, but maybe a few patches. Is it possible to do with sand? If this has been asked before I am sorry. I don't like/use the search button:grinno:

Here is what I would do for a Plant freedly Cichlid tank.

Nano Driftwood pieces and anubias nana, java ferns, and java moss. You can also get yourself Onion plants..Cichlids HATE onion plants.

As far as carpeting the subtrate with moss, you know as well as I do how much Oscars LOVE to get a mouth full of substrate and dump it where ever he wishes.

I am having good luck with a Dwarf Tiger Lily and some LARGE Saggitaria Plants with my O. However, I got him when he was super tiny and have constantly kept plants on the bottom and floating driftwood at the top of my tank and I don't expect this streak to last forever. Plus, I dump about 25 ghost shrimp in my tank every two days to keep him occupied and he is the only oscar in his tank. I could be wrong but I would assume that with multiple Oscars it may be close to impossible to have plants that are not like the above suggestions of tied down anubias and moss on driftwood.

Good Luck!
