So I'm unfamiliar with live aquascaping and was wondering how people get moss to grow on driftwood..

Not sure about the moss part, but when I was growing java fern I would attach it with rubberbands to the driftwood until it rooted into it.

As joe said, you tie down small patches to the driftwood and wait for it to take hold...

But you should also note, at some point it will basically fall off the driftwood and you will need to re-tie it down as the bottom parts of the moss die...

People tie it with fishing line (my favorite option personally) or use super glue generally.

If you tie it, you want to tie it tightly, because the more moss in contact with the wood the more moss will grab hold of the wood. Eventually, the moss will grow over the fishing line as well, making it impossible to see.

The bottom parts of the moss will die if they don't get enough lighting, but you could always trim the moss when it gets too bushy to help prevent that from happening.
However, unless you are dosing your tank and have high lights and co2, it might not grow super quickly.

Understood, thank you for the responses. I think the fishing line would work best with my driftwood.

A couple more questions..

How long will it take for the moss (or java fern) to attach to the dw?
How long will it stay attached?
My tank is located right in front of a window facing the sun (from sunrise to sunset). Is that adequate lighting? Or do i need an advanced light source?

Most mosses are low light so the lighting you have is adequate.
I put some moss on a rock then put a cloth shower cap on it. It took about 2-3 weeks.

If the moss / fern is tied to the wood, just leave it loosely tied and forget about it... But normally i think it takes a few weeks to root to the surface its placed on...

As a side note, once moss is attached to a surface you will never really be able to remove it, especially on driftwood... So just becareful about that part, as i've gotten rid of certain pieces of wood because i couldnt remove the moss once i didnt want it anymore...

Pain the butt. Thats all i can say and it will make a big mess and get stuck in filters. Thats my 2 cents i hate it. I have attempted tieing down and weighting down but it falls one way or the other
