Was wondering what the more active species are. I have a senegal and it doesn't act like the usual poly at all, it swims around midwater like a normal fish, in the daytime, and it eats at the surface right along with the other fish, pushing them out of the way even. I'm guessing being farm/tank bred gives them this personality and a wild-caught sen might behave differently...but are any of the other species particularly active, or do most of the others generally lay about like the usual poly.

see above lol-Anne

mostupper jaws seem to be more active than lower jaw species

I agree, it also depends on the fish though. I had an old Delhezi a while back who was really lazy and loafed all day. I have another Delhezi now who happens to be almost as active as my Senegal.

I also recently had a small Ornate who was very active and curious.

the upper jaw species are more active

senegal is often thought of as the most active

delhezi and palmas are also pretty active

the most active poly in my tank is an ornate he seems to be going all around the tank always

first it depends on the individual fish.

having said said, generally you can't go wrong with senegalus and palmas polli. The other palmas subspecies though are really not that active.

as mentioned, there seems to be more upper jaw species that are active to semi-active, but i disagree with upper jaw species being more active period. Since congicus in general is definitely more active than some upper jaw species.
