Mean is an understatement. I had one that kept chasing my other fish and the lfs didn't want him so I just threw him in with my big catfish not expecting him to survive the night...this 8 inch fish has survived/thrived for 4 months not in a pond with a 32 inch rtc among others....he even chases the cats sometimes! I think he thinks he is a catfish by now.
Get em fired up and check out the colors then! Mine will go from similar grey barred look to total black and white stripes cleaner than a referee's shirt. All I need to do is provoke him enough and he gets all mad and when I stop will turn and attack his reflection till he cools down. Look around, they are always for free cuz they are great in a community till they snap and wreck everything. I got mine for free and they LFS was so happy to hear he wouldn't be coming back again, I guess they sold him 7 times prior.

If you have a tank where it can live well and grow...gets as big as a midas if not slightly bigger, i would go for it.
