Most common bichirs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can't name them all the way down to least frequently found, but the ones I always see are senegals, albino senegals, endli's, del's and ornates.

IMO it depends on the area you live in, but as far as i've seen it goes... 1. Senegalus (as well as all the variants other than platinum) 2. Endli 3. Ornate (2 and 3 are debatable in my area) 4. delhezi 5. lap everything else from there depending on area varies greatly on which is more common. As far as least common there are a lot of varied opinions on what i least common.

IMO I agree with the listing those are the only ones I have found currently.
Dr. B You sure do have an Impressive Polypterus listing in your Signature.
In my 190 G setup I currently have 3 Senegals, 1 Albino Senegal, 2 Endlicheris, 1 Delhezi and 1 Ornate.
That is listed also in the order of most common to least common that I have found where I live.

In my area in central FL, it is very hard to get any of the lower jaw species. It took my LFS two months to get ahold of one single Lap (that I purchased). I had to order my two Endli online. I was able to get my gray senegal, albino senegal, delhezi, and ornate with not too many troubles. <---order from most common to least in my area.

The Senegal is sold in most big box pet stores around here, other then that I've seen WC senegals (very interesting compared to the CB variety) at my locally owned LFS a few times, endls, dels, and palmas. Had to order my Ornate online (which ended up being bigger then advertised and eating my senegal) never ever seen a lap around here either. I would say as far as rarest goes platinums and hybrids are about as rare as it gets. I've seen some interesting hybrids (ex. Endl x del, senegal x palmas etc) online

CB sens and albino are the most common in my location.

Any WC bichirs are generally rare nowadays, especially WC senegals.
