Third rock from the sun
I'm starting to want a change in my 55 set up, and I really want to do natives. I'm wondering what the most docile natives (particularly sunfish) are and i could catch locally (NE Iowa, Mississippi River). I really like Green sunfish and would be willing to do a solo one and i'm also wondering about their compatibility. Thanks in advance!!

I've got a 5" green sunny in with all my centrals and he is just fine, one of the smaller fish but holds his own in any fight. I'd actually say he sits in the top 10 of dominant fish in the tank. He's in with a jag, oscars, red devil, some vieja, and some others and is fun to watch.

if i'm gonna go native its gonna be all native, it gets complicated with the temperature differences/feeding, etc. I just want some ideas for what native work good in 55's.

Green sunfish are too big and aggressive for a 55g, I would catch some Orange spotted sunfish and put some medium sized minnows and some madtoms in there with them.

many ponds around here w/ stunted greenies, could try to find some of these ponds where you at

I think that's average size for most green sunfish populations in national wide and also it is possible for them reverts back to normal size.

Gonna be hard to find o-spots till about late next spring near spawn time.. I like the look of them though. Plus the madtoms sound like a good combo but I'm gonna need a seine net... anybody have experience with this type of live capture?
