I know my next question is extremely subjective but I'm interested in hearing everyone's experiences with raising a certain cichlid species from fry/juvi to adult. Based on your personal experience, did the most dominant, biggest, and/or most colorful out of your group grow up to be your "prized" male? Are there certain species where you could almost guarantee the sex based on behavior? Are there certain species you've noticed that females are more dominant at a younger age? Did your most dominant fish of the group end up getting paired up first? I know that responses are going to vary like crazy. I just wanted to hear people's experiences/stories as I personally don't have too much experience with raising 1 particular group of cichlids from fry to adult.

It all depends on the male and females genes

Yes...

99% of the South/Central American cichlids that are male will show ownership behaviuor.......Meaning they follow their owners finger and will nip at it or feed from it, whichever way, they are ballsy........

Are there certain species you've noticed that females are more dominant at a younger age?

NO....

Did your most dominant fish of the group end up getting paired up first?

Of course...If anything, start off with Midas Devils......You know, Red Devils.....They are the most prolific........
