what is the most efficient bio media when submerged on a fo tank, would live rock be the best option? bio balls, scrubbies, ?????

This topic usually starts a huge debate. I believe the answer to your question is a high quality ceramic bio media, and I'll leave it up to other people to argue which brand is best.

Sera Siporax is what I use and I would give this product 5 STARS!

i have about an area of a sump 12 x24 x 12 and already have area for a dsb. id like to keep minimal to no rock up top. so im packing whatever have you in that two foot area. brands don't matter if ceramic has the most surface area thats fine, i just have about 10 gallons of bio balls and 200 lbs of lace rock i could tap into or buy ceramic rings, or whatever else.

Matrix is great. Substrat pro is really good but expensive. Any ceramic rings will do a fine job. You could debate for hours over which is best but as long as you have some sort of Bio media, they will all do the job. I would not recommend submerging bioballs though. More of a wet/dry application.

Thats what I would do. I'm currently trying to fill the bottom 100gal of my sump without the stuff but it's expensive so it's taking awhile

Seachem Matrix accept no substitution (or use moar of it i guess)
