My girlfriend has a 20g tank with some platies and swordtails. Her tank is clean, except for a few areas where algae builds up. Anyhow, she wants a pleco and I was wondering what is the easiest and most hardy pleco for her size tank. I heard bristlenose plecos are fairly hardy and they have one at the LFS. They are asking $7 and its about two inches long right now. I just want to get her something that is going to be very hardy! Much thanks!!!

common or sailfin but both way to big. most are pretty hardy clown pleco is fairly cheap tough and only 4" if willing to spend 20 plus you can find some really cool looking fish personally love flash plecos and gold nuggets and snowballs

As long as you're not planning on getting one for the sole purpose of algae control and realize that plecos have their own sets of needs, I'd recommend either a Chaetostoma cf. thomsoni (aka bulldog or rubberlip pleco) or a bristlenose.

Gold Nuggets are not hardly plecos and should be avoided for average fish keepers

i take original comment back. as someone who is about breed bristlenose that should have been my pick but i think males are alot creepier and intresting to own.

I would suggest a bristlenose, clowns are too shy in my opinion...there are albino and albino longfin variants available if thats your thing too.
