What do you all think is the most important thing to add to your planted tank?
I've noticed the petstores are full of different bottles for planted tanks. Either just generic plant grow stuff or specific things like organic carbon, iron or phosphros? Any one thing most important to add to tank?

I have only ever added organic carbon to the tank as per lfs workers' advice. Anything else should be added?

ps. using pea gravel in one and sand in another tank

I think lighting and substrate are very important, but after that it's important to have CO2 or to dose liquid CO2. If you have an inert substrate, I think the best additive would be a daily fertilizer.

Light, carbon, various nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, iron, etc)
Plants need and use all of them.

listed in importance

flourish excel

potassium ferts

maintain nitrate levels

maintain phosphate levels
