Ok so heres the deal. Ill try to be as brief as possible. So my uncle owns a moving company that does evictions for the sheriffs dept. He had a job comming up that had a 55 gallon tank in the home with :
2- 4in motoro
1-silver aro 6in.
2 red hooks
red sevrum 3in
albino irro shark 6in.
Now I am a former LFS owner and had some tanks in storage that I planned on setting up in my new home that i still havnt finished moving into.
Anyway my uncle calls me for obvious reasons. I was left w 2 choice get the fish or let the moving company deal with it.. I took the fish.. I only had 2 days to prepare for the fish. I got a new 120 out of storage filled it went to my LFT owner he gave me two big bags of bio out of his sysyem. the tank has been running for about two weeks. Ammonia has been creeping :screwy:for the past few days. I do water changes. Blah blah.. Question... should i continue to do water changes or should i just let the cycle take its place?

Change water. Ammonia kills, water changes don't. Changing water isn't going to slow the cycle much as rays produce so much ammonia so quickly anyway.

Contact dayak, he is the resident water cycle expert. bahaha

You need to post some pics.. Im glad you saved those fish, sounds like they are too cramped in a 55gal plus its free.. i would have done the same thing! Good luck and please post some pics.

Thanks.. The fish were in a 55 now i have them in a 120 4x2x2.. Still way to small i know.. Im one week into a cycle of the 8x3x3. I have been storing this tank for the future but what choice do i have now?
Ill see what I can do about the pics... Still new to the site.

If you plan to put these fish in the 8x3x3 anyway, I'd just empty/refill it, move them and combine both sets of filter media. The ammonia will be watered down in 4.5 times as much water volume and you'll have more part-cycled media working for you.
