Lol, learning slowly.
You are going to need to make sure that sand gets well trurned over if the Ray doesn't do it as you need to make sure it doesn't stagnate at that thickness. You will see bubbles come up if you stir through it which is normally sulphur from the anearobic bacteria. I used to run a planter stick through it to keep it moved but as the rays got bigger they moved it the whole time.
