So ive gota 220 for years with a 24 inch silver arow, and two florida gara and a african catfish, It has a diy 40 gallon sump with 2 5 gallon pails of bioballs and sponge and charcoal and a prefilter pad i change every week. Problem is i got a 9 inch motoro female on trade for a 12 inch pecaock bass a 8 inch distacodus sext, ant two 10 inch oscars. the not so local local fish store told me my ph was to low for the ray which it was ? 6.2 and recomende i add 20 lbs of crushsed coral to my sump to raise it up.so aa few days later i got the ray and my ph was up to 7.2.the ph it went up and caused a mini cycle, and lasted 25 days of amonia, nitrite and nitrate, the ray was fed lightly silversides and bait worms, the other fish stole wat they need .lol they were real fat already, THE PROBLEM IS NOW MY RAY IS STILL EATING TWICE ADAY AND HAS NO PELVIC BONES SHOWING BUT HAS STARTED TO SHOW SOME WHITE/GREY EROSION ON THE REAR FINS LEFT ANDNOWMOVED TO THE RIGHT SIDE FINS, the nitrate is still high around 60 but the pet shop and some reading ive done says they can take it up to 200, seems like the more water changes i do kills fish, ive lost a parron shark, a previos motoro and a clown knife, my tap has no nitrate and ph of 7.2
