ive had my motoro for about a month, the other day i noticed a quarter sized pink spot on him, it is huge considering my ray is a pup and small, the next day i check on him and the skin were it was pink fell off! so now he has a huge open wound

i think he went in between the glass and the heater and before he realized it was hot, the damage was done.

it looks really bad but i think he will make it.

is there anything i can do to make his recovery faster or anything i can do to comfort him?

and i handled the heater with more suction cups so another injury from the heater will not happen.

Not too sure on what you can use on treatment, but you should get a heater cover. You can get them online for fairly cheap, it'll stop your ray from burning itself again. :)

thats why everyone says get heater guards or a rena smart heater. suction cups wont help you if its exposed then they can get burned. you can buy or make your own do a little research. and also some reading will answer your question also

instead of buying a heater guard. which is almost impossible to find now. U can make ur own out of pvc pipping or do wut i did, i just got well pipping (1$ a foot) which is very similar to pvc pipe but all black. i didnt really like the grey color of the pvc. but anywayz wutever 1 u decide to use, then u drill a ton of holes in it for it to actually heat the water. Some advice if u do decide to do this. Use a unibit, instead of a regular drill bit. A regular drill bit chews the pipping up too much, the unibit makes a nice clean cut.

is it look like this?

3 out of 5 my last batch got heater burn, it needs 1-2 weeks to heal. but the wound mark still there until now, it almost 1 month i guess..

i give them salt and water change half tank everyday...

bellow picture after 1 month, the mark still there :(

That sucks! No offense but I did my research here on MFK before buying a ray and proper use of heaters was at the top of the list. I stuck my heater in one of my emp 400's and it works pretty well, im sure with most hob's for larger tanks you can make the heater fit inside. I dont know if you use salt but It usually helps wounds heal faster.

I hope your ray pulls through and be glad it wasnt one the more rare kinds cause I here after injury to the ray the paterns dont quite come back as good as original...

thats why i roll with overflows and a wet/dry, you can hide everything and wont have to worry about heater burn. just my 2 cents i think a ray setup should include a sump or wet/dry as filtration which will eliminate a heater in the tank.

im going to make a heater cover, thanks guys, and i did research a lot before i got my ray, but i guess not enough!

I think this is the good time to run a LITTLE salt to help stop it getting infected.

Rookie error on the heater front but we all learn so dont beat yourself up, just fix it straight away.

I am running 2X big UV sterilisers on my tank and I believe this would help to keep harmful bacteria low (I have always used these on all my tanks, marine and fw and I have never had any whitespot despite keeping Clown loaches and puffers which are whitespot magnets)
