hello people im new to the forum but not to fresh water rays
i kept rays and aros 7 years ago but then moved on to reef keeping.
anyway im back now and have moved back into rays again .
i currently have 2 blue spot motoros 1 female 1 male.
whan i bought them their was only 1 male out of about 15 females so i took him. i did notice when i was there that the male had some burn marks on his underside but seemed to be heeling , they were both feeding really well on prawn, mussel and worms and river shrimp, but now 2 months on the male is not very active and seems to have some sort of slime coat on his underside. i have tryed to take a better look and it seems like a sort of rash or fungus . please can anyone tell me what i might be able to treat this with, i was thinking melafix but dont know how the ray would react to this, ammonia levels are 0 as is n02 . n03 is about 25 and i am in the process of getting these down thru water changes, ph is 6.7 and alk 8.3.
please people any advice is good advice

Welcome to the forum! Good post with lots of info about the water and your experience.

What sand is on the bottom, I am not sure if it is rough from the pics, also looks quite thick in one pic.....if it is not rough then is it regularly vac,d as bacteria build up can be an issue with them.

Any decor in the tank?

I do not know about melafix myself but many people raise the temp a bit and add salt to clear things up.

Hopefully some others will chime in soon who have seen this before.

I added Melafix yesterday, as i wrote a mail to Tikaraman, but he never answered, so i desided to take a chance, a big one it was, but its working perfect. 5ml pr 38l of water. I added 90ml yesterday (200gallon tank). Not seen any bieffects today. But it says on the box that i should repeat it for 7 days, im not sure if i dare :p

I sent a pm to T1karmann the other day as not seen him on here for a while, I wonder if he has been banned for arguing or if he is ok?

For melafix to work I think it needs the second dose due to the lifecycle of the possible problem...? (I have not read the instructions for many years, I am pleased to say)

I am also wondering where Sam Buckle has been as he was a good poster too.

Hello toby
I've got bd sand in the bottom. And I will be taking some of the sand out now as your right about the bacteria build up thanks I didn't think of that. As for the salt how much should I add as I still have some reef salt and a refractometer in the shed. Decour wise I haven't got anything just an airstone and a spray bar coming up from the sump. I have got a couple discus and couple dats as well. I did put a very small sailfin pleco in their as well but took it out tonight as I read a thread about them nibbling at rays.

I do not know about the dose of salt but there are plenty of threads on here about it, have a go with the search function and if you cannot find it post a thread question about it.

It is worth doing a really good gravel vac now whilst removing some sand.
