sorry guys no pics yet....put four pups born last night 3-4 inch disc..put i,m so happy i,ll post pics when i get a new camera...how long should i wait to put them into there own tank....the tank they are in has a foot print of 8 ft long, 4 ft deep, 30 inch high....heard of parents eating there young....all advice would be greatly appreciated...:)

I would separate now with either a divider or by taking them out. I wouldn't take the chance of them getting bit or ate.

well i,m unsure of what i can use for a divider(huge tank)didn't expect the babies for awhile....i was told she was only a month prego 3 weeks later babies, don't have a big enough tank kicking around..how likely would the parents try to eat them 50% chance if so i,ll go buy a 100 + tank just for them....

Go by one of those rubbermaid wash tubs that have all the small holes in the sides and hang it in your tank using zip ties or some other method. Keep the sides right at the surface so they can't swim out. They sell them at Walmart

never thought of that(smart)
took the fish out of my 75 gallon breeding pair of flowerhorns but them in my 50 gallon med tank
so the four pups are in there and there loving it,,,,,peace of mind for me too....thanks i,ll post pics when i get them...thanks for all the info

I like that idea, you could buy a food grade storage box with a lid and then drill it for flow, you could even buy some plexi and cut it in as a window.

The other option is to buy a small acrylic tank and drill it so that it sits on top of the main tank and feed it from a small pump and let if flow back to the main tank, just make sure the lid / stress bars are strong enough or put it on a higher level.

As promised pics as i had to do them with my web cam so they are not great

I have a post -or- thread showing my pup nursery circuit. Simply get a rubbermaid bin that can straddle the width of your tank. Put in a drain hole, pump water up to this bin. Place pups in bin and voila! (water should drain back into main tank) Total price < $40.
