My female motoro swims in the current of my fx5 filters output only when the lights go out. she does this from what i have seen, for the entire time the lights are out. when the light comes on, she goes back to swimming around the tank normally. I had first thought she needed more O2 and was letting the water move over her gills, but she only does this at night, resting for short periods at a time.
She has no sign or illness, and eats like a champ, so im not worried. just curious.
anyone else seen this in their ray?

She is fine, just doesnt like the bright lights is all...

I had a female motoro behaving EXACTLY the same..
she died last week..
but I think you shouldn't worry at all, since she died from ammonia poisoning..
I'd be grateful to have another ray who would swim graciously like that again..

When she is "soaring" check her closely for erratic light brown bumps. Argulus, Fish Lice.
I have had two motoros act exactly like yours and found Argulus on their undersides.
Consider using a focused beam flashlight to illuminate her underside while keeping the tank and room lights off.
Respectfully,
FireMedic.

Check for any irritants such as naughty tank mates or some ****ty parasite; the behavior, however, is done all of the time by my rays. My motoros love the bubbles.
