Motoro Ray, Sting come off...???

A few weeks ago I notice a white boney spine coming out my motoros tail which I presumed was his sting developing however I don't remember seeing this on any other motoro, it slowly grew bigger and bigger and I woke up this morning to find it on the base of my tank it's just over an inch long feels like a bone and has 2 sharp points at 1 end?
Is this his sting and if so why has it come off? Will another 1 grow back? If not what on earth is it?

I'm not a ray keeper, but if i remember correctly, i think rays can and will shed their stingers periodically as they grow?

They shed stinger every 6 months the 2 points are where it was attached. I assume this is a new ray that had it's stinger clipped for shipping

I brought the ray in January so had it just over 8 months, thanks for the reply this is my first ray do still learning
