motoro rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its a pretty good deal, just make sure that you cant see any pelvic bones... and ask if you can see them eat before you buy one

smallest tank size would be prolly around 240 for a good 3-4 years but it will eventually need a bigger tank, they usually max out at a 24" disk, so you will need quite a big tank, tankmates are normally fish that are not very agressive... big enough not to be eaten.... discus and arowannas make good tankmates since they normally stay on top of the tank... NO cichlids!

ok thank you very much for the info. what kinds of fish can i keep with it? what size tank?

:nilly::nilly::nilly: for an adult motoro you will need 8'x4' as they got over 24"disk.... dats, aros, gars, some cichlids, pretty much what cant fit in the rays mouth or kill the ray.... plecos are not good tank mates either.... i recomend alot more research before you by a ray

oh yeah i know i need to do way more research but they have them and are gonna be keeping them stocked in their store (the store opened 1 month ago) so i have plenty of time im not just gonna do something stupid lol. but now the knowledge that that you guys provided makes the store look a little bad.....the guy said that they only get an 8" disc.....but he did mention he was the reptile guy not the fishman..but yes i will do way more research and it looks like im gonna need another tank if i get one. and one more thing....do i really need that big of a tank.. can i just get and extra wide or something like 6'x4' ???

6'x4' would prolly work, the most imporatnt thing is letting the rays move around... the biggest problem is that people think that a 125 gallon is big enough and then all of a sudden... woah ur rays is to big for the sides... and then it dies... so do alot of research ask questions there are alot of great peopl on here that know what they are doing...

6x4 would work.... ponds are the better option as they are cheaper and you can go even bigger for a fraction of the cost of a tank... look on amazon.com bigalsonline etc... there is a book called freshwater stingrays by dr richard ross.... buy that book... also use the search feature on the forum here all the info is here the stickys at the top are great http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101603

http://stingraysource.com/ miles made both of these

im no ray expert but it seems that fish seem to leave other fish that look nothing like them alone. At my LFS they had a ray with a wolf fish!...scared me a little but they assured me it was fine.
