Hey, I'm looking to get a motoro for my first ray. I have my tank all set up and cycling. I found a nice healthy looking female for $190 and she's about 8-9" but she doesn't seem that active. I've also found a smaller gal for $150 that is about 6" and she is very active but the only thing is that her spots look like someone smudged them. Does anyone know what caused that? As well as what one would be better to get?

If the smudges are on a spot or two in a centralized area it could be from a minor healed injury. If all or most of the spots over a wide area of the ray are like that, it is my guess that it is just the way she is.

My male motoro developed "smudges" after being mauled by a snail. You described it perfectly. Almost looks like a few spots are dripping.

need some pix but it could just be her pattern.... the bigger one is a better deal.... rays are more active at night too.... I have had larger rays kinda sit during the day and my smaller ones were active but when lights go out the big ones would be everywhere....

That sounds like what I'm talking about. I don't have any pics sorry but it's like you put your thumb on a spot and smudged id down an inch and it's almost all of them. Severum yours look like they are fading it's kinda cool!

Dont ever buy a ray with running spots.....

It happens from stress either infection/sickness,,, bad acclimations/deteriorating tank conditions,,, being attacked etc

either way alot of them dont make it once the spots shift.

some make it but it will take almost a year for the ray to appear normal again.

Im surprised most of you seem into rays but havent heard of something as simple and as common as shifted spots.
