Red tail cat x Tiger shovel nose tank mate possibility?
I've got the cat all alone in a 125 with a fx5 on it and looking into a uv filter and a possible hang on back filter but I've recently found a motoro ray about 4-5 inches I've got PFS on the bottom and some rocks staggering around can I keep a ray with my hybrid? I've been feeding him feeder goldfish every now and than and also shrimp from Wally world. I've had him in the tank about 3 weeks and he ate all my other fish I want a little more to my tank! i think that if i can keep my cat well fed like always have 10? feeders in the tank and feed him everyday... they will coexist well hes normally pretty calm in the corner but from time to time will swim in circles in the current i feed him 3 shrimp a day maybe more depending... and hes only gonna be here till summer possibly...

tank isnt dirty like that anymore he cleaned it up!
Like i mentioned i have pfs but i think that if i get the finer sand and put some good layers in that the ray will be safer or at least not safer but easier to hide in the sand!

feeder fish are a no no, unless you're breeding them yourself. they're ticking time bombs of disease. get it onto something else.

i'd be worried about the cats swallowing up the little ray.

I would say no.

Main reason is the possibility of the ray getting either eaten or never getting any food because the cat eats it all. But also you will need quite a large tank within a year to house both of those fish. That being the case if you have the means to upgrade I would do so now and use the 125 as a grow out for the motoro and move the cat to a bigger tank. Then you could also grow out some other fish with the motoro to fill up the big tank :)

I haven't fed him feeders since when I first got him cause he was shy but I guess I will no longer do that. The ray couldn't fit in it's mouth and during the day I'd say he'd easily be able to eat(the ray) cause my cat is pretty calm and keeps to himself or I'd feed on separate sides of the tank. I only plan to keep the cat til summer. What is smelt? The cat isn't too big to get scary I don't think.

Sounds a bit risky but if you do decide to try it just remember you have 6 months to a year tops before an 18" wide tank looks very small to that motoro. Also please read through the stickies that will answer a ton of questions for you

i think im gonna skip the ray for now since no one will give me any positives =[ is PFS good for rays? incase i decide to get rid of the cat or should i swap for finer sand? im thinking im gonna get a real good clean out of this and either add more PFS or get rid of all of it and add some black and white fine sand for future purposes. are discus a safe fish with rays ? they stay on the top waters maybe they are what i need with a ray i think my cat would eat them too ha...
