I've been in the hobby for 3 years now and it's the first time that I ever bought a stingray. I had my stingray for about 2 months and everything was fine. He was eating and always swimming around. 2 days ago I saw that the top of his skin was peeled off and he had red veins under his stomach. Also, I was cutting up pine wood in my basement and I may have got some particles in the water, is that harmful? He was just a baby and he was in my 125 gallon with an FX4 canister. Please help, I need some advice

First off, so sorry for your loss!

Can you post your water test results? Water change frequency? Any additives you have been adding to the tank?

The pine probably is harmful. Sorry for your loss. Is he alone in the tank? ( ) decent range
Ammonia? (<0.05)
Nitrite? (<0.05)
Nitrate? (<20.0)
pH? (6.8-7.6)
Temperature? (78F)
is the water clear?
Do you have fine sand in the tank? Stingrays are very delicate animals and require ultra-fine sand as they are bottom dwellers. This is probably the reason as you stated the skin was peeling and probably the rocks or gravel or anything shark or rough was peeling and scratching it off and removing the slime coat too. The red veins indicate the swelling off the bottom scratching on the rocks. you should have limited or no decor and no sharp or rough objects

Can you post a pic?
