I have 2 young Motoros, one male and one female, just a few things i need to know, i feed them 2-3 times a day, they have frozen (thawed) prawn, cockles, also the odd blood worm that the other tank mates dont get at, but not much pellet, maybe at times.
I stuff some prawns with pellets when they wont take them, but they only have 2-3 medium prawns a feed.

Now when i have give them the prawns they take the first with no messing but then the next they swim away with it and then dont see them for maybe 15 mins, then when they do show again they burry them selves for a while.

They are great otherwise, the female seems to swin up the tank front as if she wants food late at night.

Should i have any concerns, are they eating enough?

No, that sounds normal to me.

Keep testing the water and keep up the water changes and you should be fine.

Keep trying new foods all the time, pellets are a god send so mix one or two in with their favourite food, eventually they will take it. Clear away any united though.

Hi there kida, its did worry me a bit, i seem to expect them to eat loads from what folk say.
The water is fine also (excpet for the cloudy water cant seem to clear it) and do a regular 50% a week WC now.
I fined the best way to get them to feed new food is to not feed them for 2 feeds then they eat like pigs, i have some silver fish which i cut small, about 6mm long, and if i fed them this with prawn they dont touch it, miss a few feeds they love them.

Good to know then nothing to worry about.

I was thinking today about getting a pair of Retics, not looked yet but will all get on fine?

I wouldn't add any more fish /rays as it makes keeping the water quality hard.

Cloudy water is a big danger sign...could be low oxygen levels or bacteria / algae bloom.

Make sure your filters are not washed out in Tap water, tat you use dechlorinator on every water change and that the filters are mature.

Please test the ammonia and nitrate with new test kits and not dip strips...report back....cloudy water is often a sign of poor water quality....if the test show up any levels then do a big water change, stop feeding for a day or so and test every day.

What size tank and how are you filtering...what's the ph and how long has the tank been running?

I do a 25% WC every 3 days when i do this i add water safe and put direct into the tank, the params are NITRITE 0.2 ( should be better), NITRATE 25 AMM 0, PH 7.2.

I think its alge bloom actualy.

Its a 145g with a 45g sump returned by 2 450g pumps to a spray bar now, i just added this lastnight, it was returned by 2 21mm pipes.

And its been running now for near 3 months

I say alage bloom as the tank sits opposite a window and when the sun comes up its gets direct sunlight for about 3 hrs as the sun goes around, i found out that my son was opening the curtains before he went to work when i asked not to until his mum comes home after dinner, i fitted blinds now to redirect the sunlight, but only did it 2 days ago so going to see how it clears up if at all in the next few days.

Thanks mate
