I recently found what I thought was just a pretty baby flat head in dale hollow lake in Tennessee. After checking the web turns out it’s a mottled madtom.witch is not listed to be in dale hollow. I had no idea these lived here or existed. But I love this fish and want to catch a few more. Does anyone keep or breed this fish. Can’t find much info on them.

Sorry pic sucks it will not be still when I take it out of the tank and hides when i put it in the tank.

Not much out there but similar to most catfish. Clean water with some current. Provide a few hiding spots. No heater needed. Will take most foods it can fit in it’s mouth.

Frecklebelly madtom, Noturus munitus? Listed as vulnerable by IUCN and Tennessee appears to be one of a dwindling number of states they can be found in the US.
They appear to be on the decline and reasons listed seem to be around, amongst other things, poor water ( they require clean well oxygenated water) and too much silt. So I would guess they like gravel areas a bit like barble for spawning ?? But only sumizing.
Look like a great breeding project!!!!
All the best in getting a few and keeping the hobby stocked !

ill leave this here...search/read into it further as u wish... if u found an i.d. for ur fish in the state u should be able to find out u need to put it back. Dont post pictures with ur information to incriminate urself. all it takes these days where DNR are keyboard warriors.
