I was in a small stream today looking to see what species of native fish where living there. I found fatheads, creek chubs, stonerollers and small freshwater sculpins. I released all the fish unharmed.

Has anyone ever kept these little sculpins in an aquarium? How did work out?

I've kept them. I don't recommend them, unless you want to set up a specialized single-species tank. They are big-mouthed predators who will devour darters and minnows nearly their own size, and have particular needs regarding temperature, oxygenation, and diet, as noted in the article linked above.

I suggest Etheostoma sp. darters as a better alternative. They are also bottom huggers but do much better in a normal aquarium, can be kept in mixed community tanks, and include a wide variety of attractive species.
