An island somewhere......
Looking to get back into mountain biking and need some input. I've always been a fan of Specialized and looking to purchase one of their hardtails. I'm seriously considering the '11 Specialized Stumpjumper 29er EVO. Pro's? Con's? A bit pricy but I'm sure I can find it for less....... Especially if there's any MFK members who have the "hookups"? :naughty:

Thanks in advance.

Good part spec...light. Specialized are always good to buy new...lifetime frame warranty. Their prices are about the same as the other big companies. Only way to go cheaper would be to look used. And spec don't allow their bikes to be sold online so it has to be through a shop.

Hello; I have owned two specialized hard tails. I rode the first one (a steel frame hardrock) for over 13 years.

The second is still with me (about four years). It is a less rugged model in Al as I do mainly fitness riding. It is a hardtail with a suspension fork. The suspension fork is OK, but my favorite feature is the suspension seat post.

Had I paid a little more attention to cleaning and lube of the hubs and bearings the first bike would have had almost no problems at all. I have had to replace some cables on the new bike as the plastic cable ends on a few have failed. I replaced them with metal ends. I now look for good bearing sets (that have some sort of seal) and metal ends on the cable housings.

Thanks fellas. I previous rode a GT full suspension but want to stay lighter weight and not so flashy since it'll be trail riding and a work commuter more than full downhill.

you cant go wrong with specialized to be fair - not sure about the not selling online thing but as far as 29ers go - i have only ridden one a few times - i like the fact they seem to roll better over slighly rougher terrain.

dont forget if you start to do some slightly harder rinding you can always upgrade some components....
