Mounting driftwood to slate

I have a piece that just wont sink and stay put so I want to mount it to slate. What's the best way to do it? Thanks guys

drill a hole(s) in the slate with a masonry bit.. then use stainless screws to hold it in place..

So the screw won't affect the water chemistry over time?

I tried the method mentioned above and it worked out very well for me.
