Can mouth brooders eat with eggs in their mouth?

Yes but it's rare. I had some Astatotilapia nubilus females that would take small bits of flake food, jungle the eggs around and then seemingly swallow the food. Most don't eat for the entire duration though.

X2

I have a female ahli right now that will actually eat a little while she is holding. I also have several other ahli females that will come up and act like they are eating when they are holding, if you don't watch their mouths you would never know they are not taking anything in. Not sure what causes them to do this, guess it has something to do with not wanting to appear abnormal though...in the wild abnormal means somethings next meal.
