I have several of my mollies who are swimming around with their mouths open. It appears as though they cannot close them. One of the appears to have a bit of cottony growth on the mouth. Is this mouth fungus?

I have started treatment with Pimafix and Melifix, but I am not sure if I should use Maracyn & Maracyn 2. Also, I am lowering the temp as I read on one place that lower temps help. I have also added some Vitachem as I do once a month. Should I add salt?

In this tank are mollies and platys as well as corys and 1 pleco. It is a 30 gallon long and I know it is not overstocked. The majority of the fish are still juveniles.

Any suggestions? I have lost some fish in the last week, but they did not appear to be sick at that time.

Treat with Maracyn, you can treat with both to prevent secondary infection but out of the two you should use Maracyn. Pima/Melafix won't do anything. Keep the temp at about 76-78, I just finished fighting this off.

What you are dealing with is Columnaris. Good luck.

Thanks so much for your replies. I am going to do a water change today and start them on Maracyn. I will put in M2 for a couple of days to help them along. I am going to add more salt and keep them temp 76.

Again, my thanks.
