Hi, i noticed 2 or 3 (2 mpimbwe juvies and 1 larger burundi) that have suddenly developed this unusual mouth/lip . I noticed these fish did not have this previously and so believe it is a injury. The burundi that had this seems to have healed itself as I no longer see it anymore. Anybody have any experience with this before ? Is it caused by weak ligiments etc. or is something dislocated ? I just looked and it appears there are a couple more that have it. I have not seen any lip locking at all so not sure what is causing it. Any opinions are welcome.

This is a new thing. Wasnt like that before, was normal before.

They are two to three inches now. I got them as 1/2 inch fry . I take tons of closeup pics and never saw it before. It started with one or two, and now i see 4 of them with it. I see it in the mpimbwe. I had one burundi with it but it seems to have went away on that fish to the point i cant see it anymore but that fish is bullied by the alpha and beta real bad and i am gonna have to sell it soon so not sure if it got injured from fighting or not. I have not seen any lip lock at all . Im wondering if it is possiable weak ligiments or dislocation.

I sure hope so but not real sure . I think it might be here to stay. I wont get rid of them yet, i will wait about 6 mo and just hope it goes away. I seem to remember seeing a post on cyphos.com in the past that stated sometimes you can snap it back inplace but to be honest im scared to try it, dont want to make it worse or harm them since they dont seem to be effected by it at all. THey still eat normal and sift sand etc...It just appears that the lip is stuck in the extended position, thats why im wondering if it can be dislocation.

Just wait like you said. If they are acting normal, eating and sifting, which sounds like they are, just give them some time and see what happens.

I had someone on another site tell me it is a deformity that fronts are known for, hope the fish grow out of it. They said it was a loosening of the facial muscles.

Then i had a friend that kept fronts before in the past tell me it is from growth spurts and the fish is normal and will grow into his mouth. Hope he is right. Have to wait and see what happens.
