My bearded dragon is on the brance where he basks under the light and he is staring up at the light with his eyes closed and his mouth is open about 2cm. Is this normal? And no he is not dead.

yeah hes just regulating heat its a good thing

Yep, kind of like a dog panting. He's releasing excess heat through his mouth. Mine does it on occasion

so if he does this it means that i am heating the tank properly??

Its called Gaping

Maybe your using a to potent ligth for your dragon. I find interesting that iguanas sometimes have to learn how to cool of and sometimes overhead and dont move. Maybe thats the case with dragons also. Make shure to fix that

What is the temp at your basking spot?

how many watts is your bulb?
and it would be a bit better to ask all your questions on the same bearded dragon thread
