Mouthbreeding sevs are spawning

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that is a total novelty for me...you absolutely positive?

yes, from the photo looks like normal s a cichlids tending the eggs.....

yes, Heros severus from Colombia is a mouthbrooder, as seen in the picture. I have a trio of them. However with the adapatability of these fish, without the presence of predators, they may drop the need to mouthbrood? I don't know for sure. However, some cichlids are known to change sexes in the absence of the opposite sex and breed, like the livebearers poeciliads.

maybe those eggs aren't there's? I see a uaru fernandezyepezi also a h. psitticus in the background near the eggs? strange, please update us. Nice collection of these "round cichlids" you have there. The rarer and nicer neo tropicals

Great to learn, always!

Oh, i try to explain it in english. :D

The severum doesn't take the eggs in his mouth, only the larvae when they are in danger, just like many kinds of Geophagus.

The other Heros (Notatus, efasciatus, sp. Rotkeil, appendiculatus) don't do that.

In the tank aren't Hoplarchus psittacus, only Uaru fernandezyepezi. I saw the Heros laying the eggs
