I recently moved 5 juvie discus to a 55G tank. I have had the fish for two months. They have been growing well in a 30G with daily water changes.

They have acclimated pretty well, although all fish were hiding this evening which is odd. I did a 50% water change and all seems well. The tank is bare with driftwood. I moved the sponge filter over from their previous tank. There is also an Emperor 400 running.

Conratulations! They should do well.

Jack Wattley himself actually recommends 6 adult Discus for a 50g setup. This recommendation came via answer to one of the questions in his Ask Jack column in the Tropical Fish Hobbyist mag, May 2007 edition(Current).

Thanks for the information. I actually have a sixth discus that I purchased at the same time. Unfortunately it is not thriving like the other 5 fish. I have it in a separate tank, trying to make sure that it eats. It has been in the tank for a few weeks, still not thriving.

I do not want to slow the progression of the other fish by adding a sick fish. I have treated the fish with Melafix and Pimafix. Any suggestions?

for that problem you may want to turn the temp up depending on what it is at! you could also give it a more diverse diet depending on what they get!(beef heart, blood worms, brine shrimp, some pelles, flakes!)

just keep trying! and try parameters! and make sure all is fine!
