Well, I figured it was time to move my foot long gold clown knife and Florida gar from my 120 into the 180 tank. The 180 only had my Odoe and my Mala wolf in it. I watched them all nervously last night for an our or so. I saw the wolf do his giant mouth display, the same one he used to use on my large silver aro. It usually seems to translate to "I'm not a nice fish, you should leave me alone." The gar stays on top, so I'm not too worried, but the clown knife is mostly near the bottom.

Sure enough, I come home from work today and there's a perfect outline of my wolf fishes jaw on the side of my clown knife. Both fish still seem healthy, but I'm worried this might escalate. As soon as the knife is larger than the wolf, he should be ok, but that's going to be a bit. Normally, I would move the wolf to another tank, but I don't have one I'm wiling to risk him in: He may NOT chomp my expensive Tiger fish, and I know he'll kill my poor old bichir in the 120.... as for the 40 breeder... well, that catfish has proven that despite his generally obese appearance, he can surely hold his own.

Thoughts on what I should do? Wait and hope, or look for a home for my little Chompers (the mala. wolf)?

Thanks,
John

Move the bichir to the 180 and wolf to the 120, id also move the dat to the 180 provided he's big enough. Then when the knife is big enough switch the bichir and wolf again

Malas will attack any fish that swims near it, especially low swimming fish.

This doesnt seem like a bad idea. Might be worth a try.

That is an excellent plan of action archers; however the tiger fish in question isn't a dat - it's an ATF. I don't want to move him or the scomb because they are the only fish I have that get fed live food. Also, even if I moved the ATF into the 180, my Odoe would likely kill it.

I added another large hiding place to the 180 (which was relatively undecorated up to this point because it has typically housed an arowana) and there seems to be a truce. No new bite marks on anyone, and no new torn fins. Everyone seems to have developed the appropriate respect for the Wolf fish. Now I have to wait for everyone to stop being moody and start eating again. Two days, and no one has touched their food.

*note* - at the time of my posting this, I did NOT own a dat. The dat is a new pick-up as of yesterday. I blame you Archers - you subliminally put the idea of dat-ownership into my mind.

Update for those interested. This has become my favorite tank to feed. The wolf is eating more than he has in months, and the other fish have finally convinced my Odoe to take raw shrimp instead of the krill he used to eat exclusively. Granted, there are still a few close calls during feeding times: sometimes someone goes for a piece of food and the wolf decides he wants it, but overall this are going pretty smoothly considering the amount of aggression I have in a tank this size. Everyone eats; no one has been bitten in a while; and there is action all over this tank. I think this aggro community was a better call than the lone Jardini tank I was considering for a while.

I'm glad its coming around for you! I wish I had your problems, you have TOO MANY cool fish! :p lol

Thanks man, but I don't think anyone would choose my fish over yours . Come on, you have the most bada$$ ATF & aro (at least in my opinion), and by far the most striking catfish (the zebra that is). The only person who would choose one my MY fish over yours would be YOU... and I'm not giving up my little BATF :D
