Hi Guys,

I am moving my largest tank into my new house, and wanted to know the best way to do it?

Its a 190litre trigon corner unit, and is filtered by a fluval 205, with sand substrate
Current inhabitants:
1 Geophagus brasiliensis
1 Senegal Bichir
5 brilliant rasboras
2 red eye tetra

Its a good 1.5hours drive with the aquarium in the car.

What is the best way to move them without killing off the matured filter, and keeping the fish happy. I dont know how much of the tank water to save, if any? Should i have the LFS house my fish whilst i re-cycle?

How do you guys do it!

Cheers :D

Buy a big kids plastic clear toy box with the lid, get the fish in it and place the bio media in there, it will keep it alive. 1.5 hours aint long. And get it set up asap.

BTW your almost "dangerously" understocked lol! Get more fish!

It surprised me a bichir is in the mix. Those rasboras and tetras will never last while the bichir is there. I'd separate the tetras and rasboras from the other two if I were you.

You won't need to re-cycle the tank if you simply keep the filter damp or wet enough to allow the beneficial bacteria to survive well. You won't need the tank water as it will not hold any beneficial bacteria more than a filter is capable of. Steve got you on the right track so far.

Thanks guys :)

I do have a number of tanks, and will eventually move the smaller fish out, and the 190l will become a monster only tank.

The rasboras are pretty safe at the moment, they are about 3 inches, and the bichir is 8 inches. I did lose a red eye the other day, the runt one which was smaller than the others (about 1.5 inches). However, moving 1 tank, then setting up the smaller ones later to move the other fish into is easier.

RE: understocking... Well, I dont like my tanks to look too crowded. I prefer a few interesting larger fish than too mant small ones :)

buy water containers the barrel type hith the huge lids put your plants in one filter in another and fish in another also if you have room bottle as much water as you can good luck

Nothing sucks like being understocked :)
