around the corner from the LFS
I am moving 2 tanks(210g acrylic, 75g glass). Both tanks will be moving about 60 minutes away. What can I do to maintain my living bacteria in my 2 FX5's on the 210g and 1 on the 75g. Both are also planted the 210 having roughly 300lbs of black starlight granite substrate. The fish being transferred are 210g-13" spotted gar, 12" tiger oscar, 11" Jaguar Cichlid, 2x 9" sailfin pleco, 5" Rapheal Catfish. 75g- 2x 4" african butterfly fish, 3 2" bumblebee catfish, 2" rapheal catfish, 6" eel like loach??, 2" orino Pbass, 3x albino bristlenose plecos. Help me out!!!!! Thanks MFKER's

Not too worry, that's a pretty short trip.

Your canisters will be fine, your fish might appreciate a battery powered airpump with sponge or stone for the trip.

Try not too overload your your fish in too few containers; using tank water ony too fill travel containers.

Good luck!

And when I get there do I fill the tank with the dirty gravel and tap water just let it flow with the filters on it for an hour or so check perimeters and then add the fish? Will I have any problems with a spike in anything?? Is there anything I should be aware of or causious for?

I just moved 6 tanks this summer. None of my fish are as big as yours (largest is a 7" Asian Bumblebee cat) but some have a bad temperament (the puffers). Use tank water to fill your transport containers. For the bigger fish use either larger rubbermaid containers or if the weather is either really cold or hot, use clean coolers- will keep the water temp more stable (some have wheels with are a bonus). 5 gallon buckets are good for transporting smaller fish. Fewer fish to a container the better. Use some of the transport water to fill the tanks when you get there- at least 1/3 if you can. Also keep the old media from your filters- bag it to keep it from drying out. This way you have the bacteria for your tank- no cycling. Just remember not to bury the Prime or whichever chlorine remover you use.

Once you have the tanks set-up again and running, make sure you have it too temp.(before adding any fish)

Checking the Ph would'nt be a bad idea, but if there is a strong difference just aclimate accordingly.(drip line into holding containers...)

You should be just fine, let us know how it turns out.

Fill those 5gal buckets with substrate; then add tank water too submerge.

It's gonna be cloudy when you first restart the tank but it will clear quickly.

awesome guys thank you very much for the help Im going to get these fx5s cleaned out tomorrow and im doing the move in 2 weeks. Without MFK I would still be a guy with a 40 gallon breeder tank and 1 oscar with a lousy sailfin pleco. Thanks MFKers!!!!!!!!!!
