Next weekend I am moving back to my parents temporarily until I close on my new house. The move is only 30 minutes away but I am not sure the best way to move a fish. I have a single 3 inch P. nattereri that is very health. It is in a 55 gallon tank. My plan was to drain the tank to 20% and put the tank in a truck and drive to my parent's house. I was going to transfer my natti to a medium sized 5-10 gallon tupperware with his water from the tank and then just add that back to the tank after we get to my parent's house. Then just fill the rest of the tank with conditioned water. Please help me out. Thanks.

I think that should work fine; thats pretty much how I moved my violet goby and he came through it with flying colors. Good luck

I've moved fish a bunch of times over the years. Your idea will work just fine. For fish as small as yours, I often use a 5 gal bucket with a lid and a hole in the lid for a battery-powered air pump. If you've got an aged sponge filter hanging around, you're even better off.

i used 5 gallon buckets to move my fish on a 5 hour trip with no problems. i dont think u need a battery powered air pump but if u got one lying around i guess it wouldnt hurt. mmine made it fine for 5 hours and u only have30 minutes. i usually try to keep about half the water from the tank to put back in so there isnt much of a shock. sometimes water at different locations is considerably differentt.

Cut a piece of Styrofoam to snuggly fit into the tank and press it into the tank to the surface of the water to eliminate waves / splashing and the fish won't get bounced around. :D

Good Luck.
