As title suggests my girlfriend and I will be moving interstate and plan to move the big plec with us. What we're worried about is the tanks in the other state will only have cycled for 3-4 days with some fish and good bacteria chems on the market.

I understand plecos really dislike non-established tanks.. are we just being selfish by trying to take him or will he be fine given we'll be going nuts with adding good bacteria?

Either way fast responces would be most appreciated as we're going to be leaving in 10 days and if its not possible will need to organise his regretful sale.

Ill put this as a poll to get quick decisions but would also appreciate reasoning/and-or how to pull this off..

If its going to put our big boy at risk we would prefer leave him here.

Thanks people.

The way I have to swing it is im moving state and taking all equip; then waiting 4-5 days to let new tanks cycle as much as possible - its a 3000km trip between states so what was going to happen was my good mate at the LFS was going to come around our old place with the bags/styrofoam box and oxygen to send them by Australia Air Express. But yeah thats how I thought the best way of doing it would be given the limited time/resources ect... just im really concerned about our big beast of a pleco in a under-cycled tank.

I know my sa/ca's will be fine its just the plec im concerned about.

Well, you can try setting up a smaller tank like a 10/20 gallon meanwhile to cycle sooner and leave your pleco in there temporarily until the main tank is ready. I would probably do something like that.

Go for it. Use a battery operated air pump on the road. I think you'll be ok. Look what they go through from where they were until they get to your LFS> I moved 4 piranha on a long trip in a cooler with a battery operated pump. IF you have any live plants throw them in too they help with oxygen

I'm wondering if you can take bio material from your existing tank and keep it submerged in tank water in a bucket and take it with you. I'm not sure if the benificial bacteria will survive like that but if it could you could have your tank cycled in the matter of minutes. As far as traveling with the fish, it was'nt as far by I have a pleco that traveled in styro for 10 hours to get to my house.

If there's any 'decent' fish shops around your new area they should be happy to sell you a bit of cycled media, failing that check local fish forums see if any members would be happy to donate some cycled media to kick start you.
