My family is moving in a little while, I'm curious what the best way to catch and transport the ray is? I've been pondering with the idea of... a bucket? kind of scoop or scare him into a bucket and then get him into a tupperware container of sorts? What have you guys done?

I used a cooler and a net, which got stuck to his tail. (the net, not the cooler)

Look into a rubber net, it wont harm them.

I also heated my cooler and used a cycled sponge filter to filter it

Get a flat koi net with little bowl shape as possible, get a 24"x18"x18" container from kmart etc and your set might need battery operated air pump from bait store if driving more few hrs.

i just ordered a 22" sock net from python it was expensive and was almost oval in shape did not like it. returned the net. thinking of going to a sport store and look at a fishing net. I'm thinking no problem on size, net holes are bigger so no stinger getting stuck, and probably cheaper. good luck and be careful

Lower the water level and get the biggest rubbermaid that will fit in your tank. Scoop the ray into the container and put the lid on before you try to lift it out of the tank.

Dump the ray into a larger container for transportation.

Anytime that you can keep them totally submersed, do it.

do not use a fishing net no matter what the size of the holes are you cant use any type of net that has a sock shape, only a flat koi net or like others said get a rubber maid and use that directly

get a tupperware and make it swim into it... then slowly lift it... that's what i do, and there hasn't been any problems;)

i use it for rays and puffer..

then transport it in a serofoam shipping box :D

what kind of damage can be done by useing a fishing net just curious????????

thanks john
