Hey everyone, well my wife decided she wants to re-arrange our living room. Moving the couches but the tank is going to be a pain. The question I have is what to do with the water from the tank. Should I put all of it back into the tank after moving, or put some of it back in and refill the rest like a water change. Also, what percentage of "old" water and new water should I use?
Thanks, The Doctor.

i do 100% new water when i move my tanks with no ill effects, just make shure that your tap water has the same perams as your tank water and make shure that there isnt a BB die off from your bio media drying out. the best and easiest way to do this is to have a plan before you start. things like where are the fish going? is the new tank spot level before you place it there? is my wife strong enough to move this? sorry the last one happened to me after i started a big tank switch one day.

I have also had 100% change not affect things much. You could go spend 30 on 3x 30gallon rubbermaid trashcans, but that is not necessary. With all the good stuff in the filter and the sand, you will be fine.

Wouldn't the tank cycle again with fresh water or will the used media condition the water? Also, how soon after adding water after a 100 percent water change can I put my fish back in. I want to put my fish back as soon as possible because so much can go wrong keeping them in my cooler too long.

Just declor....I'm sure you use prime, right? Just prime up and go with it. I always match the temp and let the prime sit for maybe 10 min's and add salt. I have never had a problem...

if you add prime while you are filling then once the tank is filled then you can add fish again, and the faster you do this the less damage to your BB will occur...

I don't bother saving the old water....as long as the new water is fresh and safe your fine.

The BB are all in the filter media and substrait (if any) anyway... If your doing this fairly quickly them watch the water temperiture and keep the filters running on other tanks during the change.

I have a 240 long (8x2x2) and I wouldn't move it unless I was moving out.

Is it glass? Mine is, and it weighs so much empty it was a pain to set it up with 4 guys. Once we put it on the stand, it was there for good.

I have added at least 150lbs of substrate, that would have to come out if I was gonna move it.

SO, I would say you would need to strip the tank entirely bare, and have 6 people to break it down and get it re-set. SAFELY. You could do it with less, but it's risky.

I wouldn't worry about the new water because the BB will be ok as long as you keep the filters in tact.

If you decide to do it...Good luck!! Keep us updated with some photos!!
