Hey all I'm moving soon and I have a 225 gallon tank in my basement measuring 5'x3'x2'. When I got the tank I moved it down into the basement which was pretty difficult cause there was only 3 of us and it was hard to maneuver. since I moved the tank down I've fully resealed it all about a year ago and I was wondering if there is any tips or pointers you can give me for moving a tank?

I will be enlisting the help of a few people so we should be able to get a good amount of people to help move it. The tank will go up the stairs on its side (length ways) so that it can be turned at the corner in the stair case. then it will be put in the back of a car, transported to the new house and taken down a much easier set of stairs.

my biggest concern is, when the tank is lifted up or down stairs, should i put soemthing under it like a blanket or something to soften where the glass and stairs meet? the tank is very well sealed and glass is around 1cm thick.

for the record the tank won't be moving again after this

thanks, Rafini

They are carpeted, both the houses. current rented house there is 2 turns in the stairs, the next house only one turn

For demonstrative purposes (sorry I am a very artistic person but can't use paint to save my life) I have drawn the plan of which i currently want to use, by all means tell me to change it if it is wrong, you guys input is very important to me, so here it is getting the tank out of my basement
as you can see, the tank is in a basement bedroom, it will go out of the bedroom, up some stairs and into the car out of the back door. ( the same way it came in)

Here is a more detailed picture showing that the tank will be lengthways going up the stairs step by step, the smiling man is merely representative of how the tank is positioned, there will be at least 4 people doing this.

in the new house it will go straight in the front door, directly down a staircase and will either be put in the main room in the corner, or alternatively fit behind the wall in the utility room so that its one of those cool hidden in the wall tanks

the upper levels of each house are not included because they are literally straight out of the door or into the house.
once again thanks guys I really value your input on making this move a comfortable experience. My fish will be put into large plastic containers and have their own filter and heater while the tank is being moved and set up.

come on guys I didn't draw up crappy plans on how to move a Monster tank for nobody to help. the amount of times I've helped people with stocking suggestions you would think this is a little bit more important...

If it's possible, a blanket or even cardboard between the tank and floor/stairs is a good idea. It would be mostly a precaution, but far better than a scratched or chipped tank.

Moving big tanks is a pain in the ass. I hope it goes well.

Thanks alot, just got confirmation today that we have got the house, so the move will go ahead as stated in the above pictures. the tank is more than moveable because it got down here in the first place with only 2 guys. so going up is more than doable!
